Strategy Analyst

Strategy analysts typically work on the client-side in contrary to management consultants that typically work on the agency-side. Apart from that, the roles are highly similar.

As a strategy analyst you will participate in strategic projects and contribute with analysis, facilitation of meetings and prepare presentation material.

What does a Strategy analyst do?

  • Conduct strategic analysis

  • Make presentation material

  • Prepare and facilitate workshops and strategic discussions

  • Project management of strategic/transformation projects

  • Act as strategic advisor for management

  • Coordinate with stakeholders

Example of work as a Strategy analyst

A manufacturer of paint has traditionally only sold their products through retail partners.

Now top-management is considering also selling directly to consumers. They reach out to the strategy department for them to assess this option.

The strategy director is put in charge of the project. She delegates an analysis of distribution channel conflict to the strategy analyst.

The strategy analyst looks at cases where other companies have done something similar and what the consequences have been.

He also gathers any reports they have on their retail partners’ current satisfaction.

In the end he prepares a presentation that summarizes how current retail partners might react and a forecast of the economic consequence.
