Market access manager


As a market access manager you will work to ensure optimal market access conditions for pharmaceutical drugs. The goal is to ensure optimal pricing, reimbursement and market access conditions. This is done through demonstrating the value of the product and combining this with insight on reimbursement policies and payers.

 

What does a Market access manager do?


  • Read health economics and outcomes research

  • Establish the effectiveness and economic impact of drugs

  • Develop market access and price strategies

  • Establish and maintain relations with stakeholders e.g. payers and opinion leaders

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure all angles are taken into consideration

 

Example of work as a Market access manager


A pharmaceutical company have developed a new drug that can reduce the itching that eczema causes.


The market access manager dives into the health economics and outcomes research that have been done on the drug to establish the drug’s justification for being on the market.


He then applies his knowledge on reimbursement schemes in different countries and reads up on new changes.


With all of this in mind he is able to make a market access and price strategy.


This outlines which countries they should pursue first, which arguments they should use and which authorities and opinions leaders they should focus on.
