HR Consultant


HR consultants typically have administrative HR responsibilities. A key area of responsible for HR consultants is handling the administrative work when employees join and leave the company.


Another key area of responsibility is to help managers and employees with specific questions regarding for example sickness, vacation, maternity leave and terms of employment.  


What does a HR consultant do?


  • Advice managers on employment law

Example of work as a HR consultant


An employee is going on parental leave.


The HR consultant is contacted to advice the manager on current legislation, handle documentation to authorities to ensure economic compensation to the company and answer the employee’s questions e.g. regarding vacation during the leave.


The employee’s status is also updated in the HR system.


In addition, the manager wants administrative help in finding a maternity cover. The HR consultant helps post the job ad and coordinates the applications.


When the right candidate is found the HR consultant makes the employment contract and creates a profile for the new employee in the company’s IT systems.
