Data analyst

A data analyst collects, processes, and analyzes data.

Data analysts work with various types of data, depending on their organization's needs and objectives.

The goal is to help organizations make data-driven decisions by providing insights into customer behavior, market trends, and operational efficiency.

What does a Data analyst do?

  • Data collection from multiple sources

  • Data cleaning (remove errors, inconsistencies, and missing values)

  • Data analysis and predictive modeling

  • Data visualization

  • Prepare reports summarizing insights and recommendations.

Example of work as a Data analyst

A subscription-based streaming service has an issue: Customer churn is too high.

Management reaches out to one of their data analysts to look into this.

The data analyst collects customer data, including subscription start and end dates, usage patterns, payment histories, and customer demographics.

After cleaning the data, she starts the statistical analysis.

The goal is to identify trends and patterns related to customer churn.

From the analysis, she can see that customers who binge-watch content during the free trial are more likely to convert to paying subscribers.

To communicate the findings, she visualizes the data and prepares a report highlighting key insights, including actionable recommendations.
