You will use your business acumen to translate the company’s issues and unanswered questions into data problems that can be investigated. The problems are solved by using statistical, analytical and machine learning techniques.

Example of work as a Data scientist

Solar panels are often bought by craftsmen on behalf of the homeowner.

For this reason, the producer of the panels knows very little about where the products end up.

They hire a data scientist to analyze satellite photos of cities to gain insights on the installed panels: What sort of houses, how many panels are installed per house, how many sides of the roof are utilized for panels etc.

The data scientist trains a model to recognize if the roof contains solar panels.

Next, she analyzes the findings in close collaboration with the company to know which insights will be valuable.

The findings are presented to relevant colleagues around the company.
